Who We Are

The Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Squadron in Fairmont, Minnesota, is a proud organization committed to supporting veterans, strengthening our community, and promoting patriotism through dedicated service. As descendants of veterans who served honorably in the U.S. Armed Forces, our members honor that legacy by working side-by-side with The American Legion Family to uphold core American values and serve those who have sacrificed for our freedoms.

In Fairmont, our Squadron actively participates in community events, fundraisers, veteran outreach efforts, and youth programs. We take pride in fostering a spirit of volunteerism and unity while helping to ensure that the needs of veterans and their families are met. Whether through local service projects or national initiatives, the Sons of the American Legion remain dedicated to preserving the ideals of justice, freedom, and democracy.

Who can Join

You must be one of the following:

  • The male descendant (including stepsons and adopted sons) of a current member of The American Legion.

  • The male descendant of a veteran who served from December 7, 1941 to today.

  • The male descendant of a veteran who died after his/her honorable discharge from any service from December 7, 1941 to today.

BIO: I enlisted in the Mn. National Guard in February 1976 and attended Basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood Missouri and the Infantry school at Ft. Benning Ga. Upon returning to Minnesota I was assigned to the Combat Support Company 2/135/47th Inf Fairmont as a Scout Plt. M-60 gunner. I was part of the Norwegian exchange {Nortec 11) in 1983. I Went NCO school and Winter Operations school, was part of the cadre of that school. On unit reorganization in 92 I was assigned to HHC- and a 19Delta section leader and was also both the Unit retention NCO and Chemical Dependency NCO. I retired in late 1996, transferring to the U.S. Army retired reserve until reaching mandatory retirement. As a civilian. As my father was a WWII Veteran and an active member of both The American Legion and VFW and brought mee to many post functions were I learned the importance of Veterans helping Veterans. “Being The One”. As a single parent I coached CER girls summer softball (10+ years) , Maintenance foreman for Stokley Van Camp/Untied foods, A Journeyman Electrician with the IBEW local Union 343. After leaving construction I worked for Nestle Food and Hy-Vee. Today, helping Veterans and their families are a major priority.

Boys State

The American Legion Boys State is a highly respected educational program for US high school students.

Scholarships

Each year, the SAL sponsors XX students with scholarships of up to $XXXX 

Oratorical Contest

Since 1938, the contest has developed knowledge and appreciation for the U.S. Constitution among high school students.

Legionville

American Legions across Minnesota are proud to sponsor children to attend the Legionville Educational Center and Summer Camp.

Monthly Meetings

The Fairmont American Legion Sons of the Legionnaires Squadron meets once every month on the 3rd Monday at 1800 Hours. If you are interested in joining, drop in on a meeting and meet our members.
